Finally after 35 games, the winning streak has come to an end for Bayer Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso. It's particularly intimidating given how it ended. Bayer Leverkusen were 2-0 up against RB Leipzig, but somehow Leipzig managed to score four goals of which one of those was ruled out, but Leipzig still came back from 2-0 down away from home to win 3-2.

Lois Openda scored twice, and Kolo Muani added another goal. Fair play to RB Leipzig; what a moment for them! The RB Leipzig players even had to celebrate like they had just won the title, the stadium was too loud.

STATS

Despite Bayer Leverkusen’s football possession of 63%, 18 corners and an impressive 86% accuracy in passes, they still lost to RB Leipzig.

Anyway, No one can really criticize Xabi Alonso or Bayer Leverkusen too harshly, though. Going undefeated in 35 Bundesliga games is an incredible achievement. It's a sad day for Leverkusen and their supporters, but the streak was impressive while it lasted that’s to be honest.

Flashback

What did Bayer Leverkusen manage to achieve?

They have broken Bayern Munich's dominance of the Bundesliga, and how they did it will blow your mind. This is a story of passion, hard work, and perseverance. Against all odds, Leverkusen did the impossible gradually and won the Bundesliga title with unbeaten run of 38 games straight.

Leverkusen celebration

Bayer Leverkusen, won the league after beating Werder Bremen on Sunday, the 14th of April, 2024. They did it with five games to spare. Leverkusen were the first team to win the Bundesliga apart from Bayern since Borussia Dortmund in the 2011-2012 season, meaning they broke Bayern's 11-season-long dominance, and they did it in style.

Well, all that has come to an end unfortunately after they lost to RB Leipzig In a game Bayer Leverkusen initially had an advantage ahead of Leipzig but later was surprised by the new tactics of the Leipzig coach Marco Rose.

What is next for Bayer Leverkusen?

Well, Leverkusen still have a long way to go in this season because this was only match day 2 of the Germany Bundesliga so in my opinion Xabi Alonso has to watch out for other big teams like Bayern Munich and Dortmund. This lose will awaken the players and might even act out as a motivation for the Leverkusen players.
Bayer Leverkusen are set to face TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga next weekend.
Let me know in the comments below if Leverkusen deserved to lose this one and how do you feel about the win for RB Leipzig.
