why is Arsenal signing Raheem Sterling?
These are some of strengths and contributions Arsenal are considering
The attacking force and experience
Sometimes Arsenal lack an attacking edge, maybe an X-factor, which, okay, Sterling might not be that X-factor player, but he is definitely more of an output player rather than someone who builds up all the time.
Despite last season being very free-scoring, Arsenal still relied heavily on set pieces. Sterling is someone who gets himself into the right spaces at all times.
He is very good inside the box at picking up positions and moving off defenders to find that space. While he’s not the biggest person, he uses his agile movement to get into these positions to score, similar to what G. Martinelli does in many ways. And of course in my opinion I would say he is a better player than most wingers in the English premier league.
The high dribbling skills
Another reason arsenal considered Sterling is that he is a brilliant one-on-one carrier. He can pick the ball up from pretty much anywhere on the pitch and dribble very well.
There have been problems with him over-dribbling and not looking out for teammates, but with a team like Arsenal, where he’ll have a supportive atmosphere and trusted teammates, I’m sure he’ll adapt.
Sterling is not really a pass-first guy we all know that for a fact. If you put him on the left for deeper positions, I think he performs better than Martinelli, as he’s used to these deeper positions.
Raheem Sterling
He has around five and a half progressive carries per game, and his carries include a lot into the penalty box but also from deep and in transition, which I think could be very important.
Consistency is what one of the things Arsenal has considered when signing Raheem Sterling.
In my opinion, I like that Sterling’s performances doesn't really get worse on either wings. He’s accustomed to both wings and plays very well from either side. He’s a suitable backup for Saka or Martinelli and could even start some games.
Martinelli doesn’t want the ball deeper; he likes it closer to the goal. Sterling doesn’t necessarily have to be like that; he can pick it up deeper, and his dribbling is very good. When he gets to the byline, he usually pulls the ball back, which Arsenal has been doing more this season to open up space for midfielders.
Well now an Arsenal supporters may ask;
What impact does Raheem Sterling have on Arsenal’s Future?
I think arsenal is really in need of a premier league title after a prolonger time without it and one important aspect of Sterling’s game is his high number of progressive passes received.
This means he’s getting into positions behind the backline where progressive passes can be made for his runs. Throughout his career, this has been at a very high level. At Chelsea, he had around 11 last season, and at Man City, it was around 13 to 14. He’s so good at running off the back of people and running in behind, which is something Arsenal doesn’t have much of—a transitional threat.
He’s still quite quick, and when Arsenal get him into more space, he’ll be crucial against low blocks. As soon as Arsenal win the ball quickly, they can get Sterling going and running through.
This brings me to; How will Raheem Sterling fit at Arsenal?
Sterling’s Fit at Arsenal will come at a price that's a fact. Due to the presence of main wingers at Arsenal like Saka, Martinelli and Trossard means that Raheem Sterling will have to struggle and prove to the coach Mikel Arteta that he deserves to play wing in order to have enough game time to play.
Therefore,
Martinelli and Sterling will have to compete for the winger spot. Saka is at his prime and is playing his wing very well and to my opinion I think Saka is way better than sterling and will keep his spot.
Sterling is a player who will offer something different for Arsenal in wing positions. He’s experienced, has won the Premier League multiple times, has worked under Arteta, so he won’t take long to get familiar with the manager, and he’s hungry to prove himself after being discarded by another team.
This wasn’t just a very good opportunity for Arsenal; it’s also a lifeline for Sterling. He really needed this move in many ways, and I think he’ll prove that he can be a good player. I think Sterling can definitely make an impact.
So what is next for Arsenal??
