Headlines state that Leicester city has won the appeal made against it by the premier league and the Premier league apologies in disappointment. PRS (Profitability and Sustainability Rules) Allegations were dropped and now Leicester city is free of the charges.

What happened??

There was a claim that Leicester had breached the financial rules set by the premier league and had exceeded the threshold amount of 105 million pounds

This could have changed the primer league table and could have increase the chances of Leicester city dropping back to relegation battles which they would very much like not to happen especially at the start of the season.

Anyways, Leicester escaped the punishments through legal loopholes of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules. This was all about only on logical statement that proved to be right; According to the Profitability and Sustainability rules, a Club is allowed to change it financial budgets during the course of the season.

Leicester informed the premier league that it was going to change it financial budgets that is to say in march 2023 from May to June of 2023. This change was to allow Leicester to meet the standards of PRS rules and regulations. At this time Leicester was in the relegation zone and was already demoted from the Premier league

So in conclusion by the time Leicester violated the PRS rules, it was no longer in under the premier league’s command and limitations of league rules in might  add so this means the claims were to be dropped immediately.

“Leicester city welcomes the appeal board’s comprehensive decisions which supports our consistently stated position that any action against the Club should be pursed in accordance with the applicable rules. In its decisions, the Appeal board identifies flaws in the drafting of the premier league’s rules. 

In challenging the Premier League’s attempts to charge Leicester city, the club has simply sought to ensure (in the interests of providing consistency and certainty for all clubs) that the rules are applied based on how they are actually written” This was the statement released by the management of Leicester city club.

What did the premier league say about it?

It’s is critical importance that the premier league is able to enforce its rules consistently to maintain the principles of fairness. The league will consider what further action it can take to ensure this is the case
