What are Manchester United’s main managerial problems?
- The Inability to Close out Games
- Weak Attacking Threat
- Struggles to break down opponents
- Lack of creativity and absence of a proven goal scorer
- The Uncertainty Surrounding Erik Ten Hag’s Future
- Disconnection between Ownership and Football Operations
- Solutions to Manchester United's Managerial Issues
United are now 14th in the premier league table,
a very bad start for the red devils.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a minority shareholder, involved in
the club’s decision-making, rumors of potential managerial changes, including
names like Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, have surfaced. This article
explores Manchester United’s struggles and possible solutions to restore the
club's former glory.
This article will mainly explain all Manchester United's
current managerial issues which affect the clubs performance:
Of Couse the major issue is due to the inconsistence in Performance especially at the start of 2024-2025 season.
Why can’t Manchester United close out games?
A recurring issue for Manchester United has been their failure
to try and to close out games even if they are on top of the game at start.
Despite often taking the lead, they frequently concede late goals, which
results in dropping valuable points from winning positions.
There can be no more excuses why, because
- In Liverpool
2-2 Manchester United: United were leading 2-1 until the 84th minute
when they conceded a penalty that Mohamed Salah converted, resulting in a
draw.
- Again
in Chelsea 4-3 Manchester United: United were ahead 3-2 going into
stoppage time but ended up losing 4-3 after conceding two late goals.
- Also
in Brentford 1-1 Manchester United: Mason Mount scored for United in
the 96th minute, but Brentford equalized with an even later goal from
Kristoffer Ajer.
These matches Cleary show disconnection of the players on the field due to weird tactics used. Therefore the manger aka Ten Hag is to blame for the failures. The team is full of talent and potential and should produce results if the coach uses them well. Could it be that United struggles with focus in the crucial final moments of a match? No, am sure the players also lack motivation in my opinion.
No attacking power and strategy.
Does Manchester United
have an attacking threat?
No, united is totally lost in terms of attacking:
comparing to other clubs, Arsenal have a connected trio in front (Saka, Havertz,
Trossard), Manchester City also has a trio, but united is still disorganized
after 7 games into the season.
In my opinion we can’t blame United, Manchester
United has shown flashes of attacking prowess, but overall, their
goal-scoring record has been underwhelming. They frequently struggle to break
down opponents, which could stem from several factors, including:
- A lack
of creativity in midfield (Bruno receives many red cards i.e. in game
against Tottenham which has affected the team greatly)
- The Ineffective
tactical setups like having 4 creative midfielders in on team is a ridiculous
idea even for a coach.
- The
absence of a proven goal scorer is also affecting the team.
Why hasn’t Manchester United been able to find a reliable striker? Over the years, the team has struggled to secure a consistent, high-scoring striker who can convert chances regularly, and this remains a huge issue.
The uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future has created a challenging environment within the club. In the recent days, rumor has been going on that Ten Hag might be sacked .Constant speculation, rumors, and media reports about his job security have the potential to affect:
uncertainty about Ten Hag’s future affects the club
Now we know that Bruno Fernandes downplayed the speculation's
impact on the squad for he believe those ideas do not affect the squad, we
guess what, he lied because the constant rumors undoubtedly have create a sense
of anxiety and instability hence players are making decisions which are irrational
on the pitch. Players like Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes are questioned
about the manager’s future creating disbelief among players and Eric Ten Hag
himself.
But my greatest worry is that Ten Hag has now to make all decision on pressure. He now can no longer be tactical flexibility, confidence which will change United’s game plan for this season. Therefore, this begs the question Is Manchester United giving Ten Hag the necessary backing to succeed, or is this instability holding the team back? But as per the stats, the pressure is not good and will indeed continue to affect performance of the club
Disconnection between Manchester United’s ownership and football operations.
Clearly anyone can see that Manchester United’s ownership
and football operations are on to different paths which is not a good thing. Reports
suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe prefers to hire Thomas Tuchel or Graham Potter,
whereas the executive team seems more inclined to give Erik Ten Hag more time. No
the connection is always needed for a team to win and succeed. My opinion on
this is that, yes both Tuchel and Potter have proven themselves to a
certain extent in top leagues. For instance:
- Thomas
Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea and had a solid track
record before his departure.
- Graham
Potter, despite a mixed stint at Chelsea, showed promise earlier in
his career with Brighton.
Ratcliffe may believe that these managers could turn around Manchester United’s fortunes more quickly than Ten Hag. Does this lack of a unified vision between ownership and the executive team create confusion and slow progress at Manchester United? The answer is a straight yes.
Long-Term Vision and Identity
Ever teams success comes from its ambitions and right now
Manchester united have no ambitions I my opinion, there is no long term vision
for United right now.
No playing style
What is Manchester United’s playing style?
One of the most significant issues at Manchester United in
recent years has been the lack of a clear playing style. The team is disorganized
totally, there is no playing tactic, everyone plays what they what making it
difficult to develop players and attract new talent suited to a particular
positions of play.
Currently, Manchester United’s playing style can be
described as inconsistent, with frequent:
- Defensive lapses
- Early attacking control
- A need for more focus and resilience
Without a clear identity, how can Manchester United create a
foundation for long-term success?
How should Manchester United plan for the future?
To regain their former glory, Manchester United needs to
focus on building for the future. Short-term results are crucial, but
equally important is establishing a long-term vision for success. This
could involve developing young talent and Prioritizing the development
of younger players can provide the club with future stars like Antony,
Kobbie Mainoo
and Alejandro Garnacho.
The Path to Recovery
ReplacementsFor Manchester United’s Managerial Issues, the solutions
can be confusing but the best solution to me can be appointing a manager who brings
consistency and motivation. Sacking Eric Ten Hag is now almost near we can all
see that. Even if he finishes this 2024-2025 season in anyway, he will be
sacked
So Manchester United should focus on a new manager with a
proven track record of success who is committed to the club's long-term goals.
United have to do the thinking during the course of this season because the Stability
in the managerial role will allow the team to establish a clear direction. I think
this is the time to think about Zidane (best coach ever in my opinion and best suited
for the job)
It’s time to be flexible in tactical approaches.
Manchester united should Adaptable the same game styles Arsenal Liverpool and
City are using to play in modern football also Patience is crucial, and the
club should refrain from making hasty decisions about the manager's future for example
Klopp spent 4years building the Liverpool team, Arteta is building Arsenal.
Providing resources for the manager will lead to
Successes since winning depends on a combination of factors, including having a
strong squad, a supportive backroom staff, and world-class facilities.
Providing these resources will set the manager up for success in United Squad.
Manchester United’s managerial problems revolve around Eric
Ten Hag and to me I think sacking him, a lack of stability, identity,
and a unified vision also contribute much. Whether Erik Ten Hag remains
in charge or not, addressing these core issues is critical for the club to
rebuild and return to its former position at the top of English and European
football.
What do you think Manchester United needs most: a new
manager, a stronger squad, or better internal decision-making?
what is next for Manchester United?
Manchester United's upcoming match against Brentford is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, as part of the English Premier League. This game will be crucial for both teams, as Manchester United looks to regain consistency and Brentford aims to secure valuable points.
Will Manchester United be able to fix their defensive issues? United has struggled with conceding late goals in previous matches, so their ability to maintain focus and close out the game will be critical.
